HOUSTON (ICIS)--LyondellBasell shut down its low density polyethylene (LDPE) AB3 Unit at its La Porte polymers plant in Texas on Thursday, according to a public filing available on Friday.
The company said the unit's recycle compressor tripped off line, causing a relief valve to release approximately 224 pounds of ethylene into the atmosphere, according to the filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Operations were shut down at the unit following the incident, the report said. It was not clear whether the unit had been restarted.
A company spokesman said the company does not comment on regulatory filings or the operational status of its facilities.
The company has a 200,000 tonne/year capacity LDPE unit in La Porte, according to ICIS plants and projects.
