HOUSTON (ICIS)--Styrolution became the fourth acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) producer in the Americas to seek a price hike in 2013, proposing an increase of 4 cents/lb ($88/tonne, €66/tonne) for material shipped on or after 1 February, sources confirmed on Friday.
Extrusion medium impact ABS in bulk has a price range of 129-152 cents/lb, as assessed by ICIS Pricing.
The increase being sought, as is the case with three other ABS producers in the Americas, is to offset increased costs for feedstocks, particularly styrene.
That leaves Network Polymers as the lone ABS producer in the Americas not to have called for a price increase in 2013.
INEOS ABS initiated an increase of 4 cents/lb for 1 January. SABIC Innovative Plastics has issued an increase of 5 cents/lb for its extruded sheet and pipe material for 14 January, and Styron called for an increase of 5 cents/lb for its ABS material from 4 January.
It appears that at least 3-4 cents/lb of the 4-5 cents/lb increases is grabbing traction.
