MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--US production of natural soda ash in November fell by 1% month on month, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Monday.US production decreased to 969,000 tonnes, down from 982,000 tonnes in October, the survey said. Ending inventories for October were 313,000 tonnes, 3% lower than the preceding month's inventories of 324,000 tonnes.
Wyoming trona production in November was 1.57m tonnes, according to the data.
Mexico and Brazil were the largest importers of US soda ash from the beginning of the year, importing 862,000 tonnes and 597,000 tonnes, respectively.
Indonesia came in third, importing 558,000 tonnes since the beginning of the year, according to the data.
Soda ash is primarily used in glassmaking, in the manufacture of other inorganic chemicals, detergents, flue gas desulphurisation and water treatment and in pulp and paper manufacturing.
US producers include Solvay, OCI Chemical, FMC and General Chemical Industrial Products.
