HOUSTON (ICIS) --US maleic anhydride (MA) exports were 4,834 tonnes in November, down 7.9% from the same month one year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data made available on Monday.
However, MA exports were up 38% from the 3,505 tonnes shipped in October, the ITC said.
Canada was the top destination for US MA exports in November at 1,894 tonnes, 28% less than the 2,627 tonnes that country received in the same month in 2011. Next was Mexico at 1,556 tonnes, slightly more than the 1,247 tonnes it received in November 2011. The United Kingdom received 796 tonnes in November, a hefty 63% higher than the 488 tonnes the UK received in November 2011.
During the first 11 months of 2012, US producers shipped abroad 52,645 tonnes of MA, a 15% drop from the 61,697 tonnes shipped during the same period of 2011.
Major US MA producers include Huntsman, LANXESS, Ashland and Flint Hills Resources.
