US November sorbitol imports up 83% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US sorbitol imports in November were up by 83% from the same month a year earlier, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

US sorbitol imports rose to 1,466 tonnes in September from 800 tonnes in November of 2011.

Imports rose in November mainly because of increased imports from Indonesia.

November imports also increased from 723 tonnes in October.

Indonesia at 1,096 tonnes was the major source of US sorbitol imports, followed by Germany at 199 tonnes and China at 133 tonnes.

The US exported 2,430 tonnes of sorbitol in November, down from 3,674 tonnes in October and 3,073 tonnes in November of 2011.

Major destinations for US sorbitol were Canada at 1,240 tonnes and Mexico at 870 tonnes.

Other destinations included Australia, Colombia, Argentina, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Jamaica.
