HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for November were up by 8.5% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
US EPS imports rose to 14,084 tonnes in November 2012 from 12,981 tonnes in 2011.
The Bahamas, Canada and Korea were responsible for the most EPS brought into the US, together representing 81% of imports.
Imports from Korea increased significantly rising to 1,954 tonnes in November 2012 from 179 tonnes from the same month of 2011.
US EPS exports fell by 8.6% in November to 6,139 tonnes, down from 6,718 tonnes in 2011.
Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US EPS exports.
Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
