US November ABS exports up by 15% year on year – ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) exports for November were up by 15% year on year, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

The increase was primarily the result of greater volumes shipped to Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong, according to the data from the ITC.

For the year through November, 2012 exports have totalled 77,364 tonnes, down by 1.0% from the same period in 2011.

ABS imports in November amounted to 10,124 tonnes, an increase of 26% year on year.

For the year, ABS imports have amounted to 129,314 tonnes, an increase of 12% for the year.

Mexico led the countries that imported ABS to the US in November, followed by Taiwan and Korea, and collectively, those three countries sent 8,678 tonnes.

US producers of ABS include INEOS ABS, Network Polymers, SABIC Innovative Plastics and Styron, and collectively they have an annual capacity of 842,500 tonnes.
