US PVC exports in November down 18% year on year - ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports were 226,923 tonnes in November, down 18% from the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Monday.

Exports of PVC were also down 11% from the 255,100 tonnes shipped in October, the ITC said.

In the first 11 months of 2011, the US shipped 2,732,412 tonnes of PVC, 3% more than the 2,651,391 tonnes shipped during the same period of 2011.

Canada was the top importer of US PVC in November at 33,315 tonnes, up 27% from the 26,144 tonnes that country received in the same month a year earlier.

It was followed by China, whose 29,105 tonnes were 37% less thant the 46,225 tonnes it received in November 2011, Mexico (15,328 tonnes) and Russia (12,584 tonnes).

Meanwhile, imports of PVC into the US in November were 18,130 tonnes, up more than 8% from the 16,750 tonnes received the same month of 2011 but 22% less than the 23,329 tonnes received in October.

Canada was the top exporter into the US in November at 12,969 tonnes, followed by Mexico (1,383 tonnes), Germany (1,303 tonnes) and Columbia (860 tonnes).

Major US PVC producers include Westlake Chemical, PPG Industries, Occidental Chemical, Formosa Plastics, Shintech and Georgia Gulf.
