Japan's foamed PS shipments increases by 1.3% in December ‘12

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s total domestic shipments of foamed polystyrene (PS) rose by 1.3% year on year to 8,290 tonnes in December last year, official data from the Japan Polystyrene Foamed Sheet Industry Association (JASFA) released on Tuesday.

The country’s shipments of PS, also known as polystyrene paper (PSP), for rolled trays declined by 6.5% to 3,310 tonnes in December from the previous year, according to JASFA.

Shipments of PSP for general use rose by 19% to 1,450 tonnes in December 2012 from the same period a year earlier, the data showed.

Shipments for laminated bowls increased by 5.6% year on year to 3,200 tonnes, the data found.

PSP is largely used in food packaging.
