China’s Sinopec proposes $4.6bn refinery/petchem project in Hebei

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec has proposed to build a 240,000 bbl/day refinery at Caofeidian in Hebei province and is currently seeking environmental clearance for the project from the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).

The yuan (CNY) 28.6bn ($4.6bn) project is expected to produce about 2.5m tonne/year of gasoline and 4.7m tonne/year of diesel, according to a Sinopec document posted at the MEP’s website.

It can also produce some 160,900 tonnes/year of propylene; 711,900 tonnes/year of naphtha; 250,000 tonnes/year of benzene; and 925,600 tonnes/year of paraxylene.

The project, which is expected to be built in 2013-2015, will be operated by Sinopec Beijing Yanshan, the company document showed.
