SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding secured a contract for building a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) resin production facility in La Porte, Texas, US for Kuraray America, the Japanese engineering firm said in a statement on Thursday.

The construction of the facility is part of Kuraray group’s global strategy for its acetic acid/polyvinyl alcohol business, the company said.

The production capacity of the PVOH facility is 40,000 tonnes/year and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2014, it added.

PVOH resin has been widely used as a raw material for product such as vinylon fibre, film, textile processing agent and adhesive. It has recently been used as a raw material for windshield interlayer of a car, processing agent for information paper such as paper for ink jet and for other printing materials.

Kuraray America is a subsidiary of Japan’s Kuraray Co.
