HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in December totalled 4.507bn lb (2.04m tonnes), falling by 2.4% from 4.616bn lb in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Thursday.
Ethylene production in December by volume rose by 0.2% from November, while falling by 3.0% from the previous month when output is measured on a daily rate, the group said in its monthly Hodson Report.
The reduction came as US crackers ran at a slower pace last month, operating at 90.4% of capacity, down from 94.6% in November, according to the report.
US operating rates dropped in December as a result of multiple outages, including one planned turnaround and eight unplanned shutdowns, the report said.
