SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Henan Kaixiang Chemical is expected to start up its 100,000 tonne/year polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) unit, the first phase of its PBT project, at Yima in Henan province in March, a company source said on Wednesday.
The company started construction of the PBT project from August 2012, with a total investment of about yuan (CNY) 900m ($144m), according to the source.
The whole PBT project includes two phases, with each having a 100,000 tonne/year PBT unit, the source added without disclosing other details of the second phase.
Henan Kaixiang Chemical has two upstream 45,000 tonne/year 1,4-butanediol (BDO) units, with one running at nearly full rate and the other at 50% of capacity. The two units supply BDO to the PBT unit at the same site.
PBT is applied in the manufacture of automobile parts, computers and electrical devices.
