CAMPINAS, Brazil (ICIS)--Brazil ethanol and energy company ETH announced on Wednesday it has made a deal with Denmark's Inbicon to produce cellulosic ethanol.

The partnership will combine the expertise of both companies to accelerate the development of technologies to produce ethanol and other products from lignocellulosic feedstock such as sugarcane bagasse, ETH said on a statement.

The first phase of the agreement includes joint research on the viability of ethanol production from sugarcane residues by using existing technologies from Inbicon in sugarcane ethanol plants, the Brazilian company said.

ETH is a Brazilian bioenergy company controlled by Organizacao Odebrecht. It produces and commercialises ethanol, electricity and sugarcane.

During Brazil’s 2010-2011 sugarcane harvest, ETH increased its ethanol capacity from 200m litres/year to 600m litres/year, according to the company’s 2010-2011 report.

Denmark's Inbicon is a developer and provider of technology for second-generation bioethanol production.

The companies did not disclose any other details about their ethanol production capacities or ethanol plants startups.
