SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thai Plastic and Chemicals (TPC) plans to restart its 140,000 tonne/year No 1 vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) line located at Map Ta Phut, Thailand on 11 February, said a company source.

The line was shut on 16 January for a brief turnaround, added the source.

The resumption of operations at the VCM unit is expected to ease the critically tight supply situation of VCM within the southeast Asian region, said market participants.

VCM supply in southeast Asia has been significantly impacted following the decommissioning of PETRONAS Chemical Group (PCG)’s 400,000 tonne/year VCM unit based in Kertih, Malaysia since the beginning of 2013 as the company exited the vinyls business.
