SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Suntech Power Holdings, one of the world’s largest producers of solar panels, said on Thursday that it has completed the largest ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) system in Saudi Arabia.

Owned by Saudi Aramco, the 3.5 megawatt (MW) project spanning 55,000 square metres is installed at King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Suntech Power said in a statement.

Suntech Power added that the system, which will help KAPSARC achieve LEED platinum certification, was designed and built by Phoenix Solar.

Some 12,685 Suntech solar panels were used in the grid-connected project, which will supply 5,800MW hours/year of electricity and offset around 4,900 tonnes/year of carbon dioxide emissions.
