HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based tyre major Goodyear on Thursday confirmed plans to close a tyre plant in Amiens, north of Paris, affecting about 1,200 jobs there.

The plant, which produces consumer and farm tyres, is no longer competitive, Goodyear said. It remains unclear when the facility will be closed.

Goodyear spokesman Keith Price told ICIS that management in France presented its plan to close facility to the plant’s central works council earlier on Thursday.

He would not say when the plant may be closed, citing the consultation process required by French labour law.

“The plan to close [the facility] remains subject to consultations with employee representatives,” Price said.

“As the required consultation process has just begun, we are not able to estimate the timing [of the closure],” he said.
