LONDON (ICIS)--The European styrene barge contract price for February has settled at €1,448/tonne ($1,957/tonne), an decrease of €40/tonne from the previous month, several producers and consumers said on Friday.
While upstream benzene costs came down by over €100/tonne for February, players were expecting this to be tempered on styrene due to the upcoming turnarounds set to tighten availability in the coming weeks.
“There was some margin lost in January,” one seller said. “Demand for February and March is also looking better.”
Styrene spot values have seen some price erosion towards the end of January as upstream benzene values continued to weaken, although traders agree that the volatility on styrene has been less pronounced.
The contract price was agreed on a free on board (FOB) Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) basis.
