SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Qilu plans to switch to produce high density polyethylene (HDPE) film grade from linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) grade at its HDPE/LLDPE swing plant at Zibo in late February, a company source said on Monday.

The 250,000 tonne/year HDPE/LLDPE swing plant was started up on 18 January, 2013.

Local distributors said that Sinopec Qilu’s switch to produce HDPE at its swing plant is because of higher netback of HDPE.

According to Chemease, the price of Qilu’s HDPE film grade was at yuan (CNY) 11,600-11,700/tonne ($1,862-1,878/tonne) and the price of its LLDPE grade was at CNY11,000/tonne on 4 February.
