HOUSTON (ICIS)--Alon USA quickly extinguished a fire at the vacuum tower in its Big Spring refinery in Texas late Sunday, a company spokesman confirmed on Monday.
The cause of the fire at the 67,000 bbl/day refinery was from a leak in the bottom of the vacuum tower, which was in the process of being shut down for planned maintenance work when the fire occurred, Alon spokesman Blake Lewis said.
“We are currently in the process of cleaning up, assessing damage and planning for repairs. However, preliminary indications are that the damage is relatively minor and should have little, if any, impact on the duration of the previously announced maintenance work,” Lewis said.
One employee was transferred to a local hospital for observation from smoke inhalation. All other company and contractor personnel were reported safe and accounted for.
