HOUSTON (ICIS)--SABIC Innovative Plastics has announced its intent to increase prices for its polycarbonate (PC) by 14 cents/lb ($309/tonne, €229/tonne), a company source confirmed on Tuesday.

The increase is being sought to cover continued increasing costs for feedstocks, specifically benzene, which is a building block for PC.

Buyers continue to say they will push back on the increase proposal.

General purpose (GP) moulding grade PC has a spot price range of $1.53-1.85/lb.

SABIC and Styron each sought price increases in January for the PC material of 11 cents/lb from 7 January and 12 cents/lb from 4 January, respectively.

Bayer MaterialScience announced a proposed increase of 15 cents/lb from 1 February.

US PC producers include Bayer MaterialScience, SABIC and Styron.
