NEW YORK (ICIS)--Contract prices for US phthalic anhydride (PA) were assessed up by 6 cents/lb ($132/tonne, €98) in February based on an increase in the January contract settlement for feedstock orthoxylene (OX), market sources confirmed on Wednesday.
US PA contracts this month are at 87.50-94.50 cents/lb FOB (free on board) molten grade and 88.50-95.50 cents/lb DEL (delivered) flake grade.
The monthly US PA contract follows the movement of the OX contract price in the previous month. The January OX contract price was settled at 80.50 cents/lb FOB, a 6 cent/lb increase from the December contract price.
PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticizers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers and Stepan.
