SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Ningbo Heyuan Chemical has yet to produce monoethylene glycol (MEG) and polypropylene (PP) since it started trial runs at its upstream new methanol-to-olefin (MTO) plant on 20 January, a company source said on Thursday.

“We have obtained on-spec ethylene and propylene, but have not seen MEG and PP outputs,” the source said, adding that MEG and PP outputs are expected in another couple of days.

Ningbo Heyuan previously aimed to achieve on-spec MEG production in early February.

The 500,000 tonne/year MEG unit is one of the two derivative units of Heyuan’s 600,000 tonne/year MTO plant at Ningbo Industry Zone.

The other downstream unit is 300,000 tonne/year PP plant at the same site, the source said.
