HOUSTON (ICIS)--?xml:namespace>Albemarle has begun construction at another expansion of its fine chemicals custom manufacturing site in Tyrone, east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the US-based chemicals and catalysts firm said on Thursday.
The $30m (€22m) expansion adds new capacity to the site for custom manufacturing projects, and it will improve infrastructure to allow for future incremental and low-cost expansions, the company said.
David DeCuir, Albemarle’s Fine Chemistry Services business director, said that as part of the expansion, reactor capacity at Tyrone would be increased by 40%, with the first increment of the new capacity to be operational late in the first quarter of 2014.
The expansion project comes after Albemarle last year began operating an earlier expansion at the site.
