SINGAPORE (ICIS)--An explosion and a subsequent fire killed one person and seriously injured another at an industrial gases facility of Air Liquide in La Porte, Texas, on Saturday, media reports said.
The powerful explosion rattled the windows of nearby buildings, according to witnesses quoted by the media reports.
Gases, including oxygen, nitrogen and argon, are mixed at the plant into cylinders that are used in the processing of such items as food, beverages and electronics, a company spokesman was quoted as saying.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
“Air Liquide is monitoring a fire at its facility in La Porte. We understand from emergency personnel that the fire is now contained. We are working to determine the cause of the incident and remain in contact with authorities at the scene,” an Air Liquide statement quoted by the media on Saturday had said.
