Europe chlorine output up in January, caustic soda stocks fall

LONDON (ICIS)--Average European daily chlorine production in January 2013 rose by 4.6% month on month, industry body Euro Chlor said on Monday.

Average daily chlorine production for the region – comprising the EU, Norway and Switzerland – stood at 26,434 tonnes, compared with 25,277 tonnes/day in December 2012. Production during the month was down by 3.6% year on year from 27,410 tonnes/day on average in January 2012.

Co-product caustic soda stocks fell by 5.6% in January compared with the previous month to 228,007 tonnes, following a 10% month-on-month increase in stocks in December 2012 to 241,462 tonnes.

Caustic soda stocks were also down year on year, from 250,408 tonnes in January 2012.

Chlorine capacity utilisation stood at 76.4%, compared with 73.5% the previous month, and 79.5% in January 2012.
