HOUSTON (ICIS)--US nylon imports for December were up by 63% year on year, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
For the full 2012 year, imports of nylon totalled 87,166 tonnes, an increase of 23% over the same time frame in 2011, the ITC data showed.
Germany, Canada and Italy were the points of origin of the top three amounts of material imported.
US nylon exports for December 2012 increased by 18% year on year, rising to 49,959 tonnes from 42,411 tonnes in December 2011.
For the full year, exports of nylon totalled 603,884 tonnes, a decrease of 3.2% over the full-year 2011 total of 623,997 tonnes.
Mexico, China and Belguim were the three largest export destinations of US nylon in December 2012.
The ITC groups nylon 6, nylon 11, nylon 12, nylon 6,6, nylon 6,9, nylon 6,10 and nylon 6,12 in its report.

US producers of nylon include Ascend Performance Materials, BASF Corp, DuPont, EMS-Grivory, Honeywell, INVISTA, NYCOA and Shaw.
