HOUSTON (ICIS)--US melamine imports in December decreased by 39% from the same month in 2011, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

US melamine imports fell to 1,889 tonnes in December from 3,085 tonnes in December of 2011.

Imports fell in December mainly because of a decline in product brought in from Trinidad & Tobago.

For the full 2012 year, US melamine imports fell by 10% to 32,503 tonnes from 36,213 tonnes in 2011.

The US exported 3,399 tonnes of melamine in December, an 18% increase from the 2,885 tonnes imported in the same month of 2011.
