HOUSTON (ICIS)--December 2012 styrene exports were down from the same time a year earlier, while imports were slightly higher, according to data made available on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
December 2012 styrene exports were at 126,859 tonnes, down by 11,442 tonnes or 8% from 138,301 tonnes in December 2011. The top three destinations for US styrene in December were Mexico, China and Colombia.
However, the December 2012 styrene exports were up by 25,815 tonnes or 26% from 101,044 tonnes in November.
Total 2012 styrene exports were at 1.54m tonnes, up by 14% from 1.35m tonnes in 2011.
Meanwhile, December 2012 styrene imports were at 55,726 tonnes, up by 2,692 tonnes or 5% from 53,034 tonnes in December 2011.
Total 2012 imports from Canada were 478,451 tonnes, down by 138,538 tonnes or 22% from 616,989 tonnes in 2011.
Canada was the only importer of styrene into the US for 2012.
Major US styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, Styrolution, LyondellBasell, Total and Westlake.
