HOUSTON (ICIS)--US methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) exports in 2012 were down by 30% from 2011, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

MDI exports in 2012 declined to 12,409 tonnes from 17,737 tonnes in 2011.

MDI exports for December were down by 15 % from the same month a year ago, to 707 tonnes in 2012 from 834 tonnes in December 2011.

Month on month, exports declined by 24% from 934 tonnes in November, the ITC said.

The decrease from 2011 to 2012 was a result of smaller volumes being shipped to Brazil and China.

Top destinations for US MDI in 2012 were Mexico (4,026 tonnes), Brazil (3,024 tonnes), and China (1,597 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
