HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethyl acetate (etac) imports in 2012 rose by 27% over 2011, largely on increased shipments from the top three source countries, Mexico, South Africa and Brazil, according to data released on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
Etac exports increased 16% compared to the previous year, on greater shipments to Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela.
Etac imports, usually about twice as large as exports, totalled 50,604 tonnes in 2012, compared with 39,961 tonnes in 2011.
Exports totalled 23,409 tonnes in 2012, compared with 20,224 in 2011.
Etac is a major ingredient in inks and coatings, particularly in nail polish.
Major US etac producers include Celanese and Eastman Chemical.
