TOKYO (ICIS)-- Japan’s production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) in December fell by 1% year on year to 50,293 tonnes, official industry data showed on Tuesday.
Domestic shipments of VAM for polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) production stood at 38,164 tonnes in December 2012, unchanged from December 2011, according to the Sakubi POVAL kogyokai (VAM PVOH industry association).
However, shipments for adhesives fell by 36% year on year to 2,665 tonnes, the data showed.
The country’s output of PVOH rose by 5% to 20,227 tonnes in December from the previous year.
Domestic shipments of PVOH for Vinylon fibres declined by 24% year on year to 4,742 tonnes, while shipments for adhesives increased by 22% to 1,973 tonnes, according to the association.
Exports of PVOH stood at 7,907 tonnes in December, a 13% increase from the same period a year earlier, the data showed.
