LONDON (ICIS)--Wheels and tyre manufacturer Titan International will not bid to take over Goodyear’s tyre plant at Amiens, north of Paris, officials said on Tuesday.

Goodyear last month announced plans to permanently close the facility, and earlier on Tuesday it reiterated it would go ahead with the closure. The plant employs about 1,200 workers.

US-based Titan had been seen as a potential buyer for the plant to produce farm tyres.

However, Arnaud Montebourg, France’s minister of industrial renewal, said that Titan informed him it would not be bidding to acquire the facility.

Montebourg added that he instructed investment agency Agence Francaise pours les Investissements Internationaux (AFII) to look for another buyer for the plant.
