TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s total domestic shipments of foamed polystyrene (PS) sheet, or polystyrene paper (PSP), fell by 16% to 6,950 tonnes in January, the Japan Polystyrene Foamed Sheet Industry Association (JASFA) said on Wednesday.

This is, however, a 1% increase from the year before, according to the official data.

Shipments of rolled trays decreased by 3.9% month on month, and declined by 6.5% year on year to 3,180 tonnes, the data showed.

Shipments of laminated bowls fell by 30% to 2,250 tonnes from the previous month, but rose by 2.7% from the year earlier, according to the association.

PSP is used for food packaging.
