LONDON (ICIS)--INVISTA has started up production at a new nylon salt plant in Rozenburg, near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the US-based polymers and fibres major said on Thursday.

The plant will serve INVISTA’s European fibre and plastic customers, the company said.

“The addition of a salt facility in Rozenburg will provide our customers a security of upstream, local supply, while further improving our responsiveness to market needs,” said Kurt Burmeister, executive vice president at INVISTA Engineering Polymers.

“With our ability to produce salt, polymer and compounded products in our own European facilities, INVISTA can develop new products to meet those needs,” Burmeister added.

Financial or capacity details were not disclosed.

The polymers INVISTA’s produces at the Rozenburg site are used in applications such as air bags, tyres and car parts; residential and commercial carpets; active-wear for sports; and apparel and hosiery.

Last year, INVISTA acquired a nylon compounding and recycling facility near Maastricht.
