SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes is currently operating its 900,000 tonne/year methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) plant at Ningbo, Zhejiang province, at more than 90% capacity, a company source said on Wednesday.
The MDI plant had previously been running at reduced operating rates throughout January, following unexpected mechanical issues. However, those issues have been resolved and the company has managed to ramp up its operating rates during the Lunar New Year holiday period, from 9-15 February, the source said.
The company’s MDI plant at Ningbo currently consists of two lines of equal capacity. It eventually plans to raise the annual MDI output at its Ningbo site progressively, to attain 1.2m tonne/year by the end of 2013, through further debottlenecking, the source added.
The company has another 200,000 tonne/year MDI plant situated in Yantai, Shandong province, which is currently running at full capacity.
Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes, which is a subsidiary of Wanhua Industrial Group, is the largest producer of MDI in Asia.
