HOUSTON (ICIS)—US January propylene output increased by 5.6% month on month, according to data released on Monday by consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy.

The firm’s Hodson Report said January propylene output was 943m lbs (428,000 tonnes), up from December output levels of 893m lbs.

The daily average propylene output increased in January to 30.43m lbs/day compared with December’s rate of 28.90m lbs/day.

A big factor in the increase in production was higher industry operating rates. The report said January rates were at 93.3%, up from December’s level of 90.8%.

Additionally, crackers shifted 0.9 percentage points away from lighter feeds, as ethane usage fell by 1.3 percentage points in January from December.
