SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Saudi Methanol plans to shut its 1.7m tonne/year Ar-Razi 5 methanol plant at Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia in the second half of this year for scheduled maintenance, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.
“It is a scheduled shutdown and there is no impact on supplies. All our customers have been informed,” the source said.
A contractual buyer of the company agreed, saying that all its cargoes had arrived on time despite any shutdowns, as the company would build up its inventories for the down time.
Meanwhile, Saudi Methanol is running all its five plants Ar-Razi 1 to 5, with a combined capacity of 4.9m tonnes/year, at “normal rates”, the source said.
Saudi Methanol is a 50:50 joint venture between SABIC and a Japanese consortium led by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical.
