SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Qilu Plasticizers plans to shut its 400,000 tonne/year plasticizer unit at Zibo in Shandong province on 5 April for scheduled maintenance, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.
The plasticizer unit is currently producing more than 400 tonnes/day of output in view of the pending turnaround, the source added.
The unit’s shutdown is likely to raise dioctyl phthalate (DOP) prices further in the Chinese domestic market, because of its large capacity and trade speculation, a trader said.
Domestic DOP prices in east China were assessed at yuan (CNY) 12,975/tonne ($2,083/tonne) EXWH (ex-warehouse) east China on 26 February. Prices fell by CNY25/tonne from CNY13,000/tonne on 22 February, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
Shandong Qilu Plasticizers is a key plasticizer producer in Zibo.
