China’s PE, PP imports rise 7.81% in January

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s import volumes of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) in January rose by 7.81% month on month to 1.31m tonnes, China Customs data showed on Wednesday.

PE import volume increased as the previously deferred Iranian shipments have arrived, said market players.

Compared with the same period last year, January’s PP and PE import volumes rose by 43.53%, the official data showed.

Total PP imports in January were 539,600 tonnes, a 5.6% increase month on month and an increase of 51.85% from the same period a year ago, according to China Customs.

The country’s PE imports stood at 768,000 tonnes in January, a 9.42% increase from previous month and an increase of 38.22% compared with the same period last year.
