SINGAPORE (ICIS)--BASF will open a new research and development laboratory and an application technology centre for battery materials in Amagasaki, Japan, the German chemicals major said on Wednesday.

The facilities are scheduled to be fully operational by the end of this year, the company said in a statement.

The new research and development laboratory will focus on researching electrolytes and electrode materials for high-performance batteries, while the application technology centre will aim to “enhance service and to develop tailor-made solutions for the battery industry in Japan”, it said.

Overall investment amount for the new facility is “several million euros”, BASF added.
