Xylenes production disrupted at Citgo US midwest refinery

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US aromatics trade sources said on Wednesday that Citgo’s 167,000 bbl/day Lemont refinery in Illinois had a mechanical issue recently, which was impacting xylenes production

Citgo has not confirmed any production issues at the Lemont facility.

The reported production issues come in the wake of PBF Energy’s recent problems at its Toledo, Ohio, refinery.

PBF Energy had declared force majeure because of a small fire at its Toledo, Ohio, refinery in late January.

The company has restarted the refinery, but said it is likely to take several weeks before it is back to planned operations.

The reduced production in the Midwest has led the market to search for alternative outlets.
