SINGAPORE (ICIS)--India’s Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals (GSFC) has started trial production at its 525 tonne/day or 173,000 tonne/year methanol plant in Vadodora, Gujarat, a company source said on Friday.

The start-up date of the new methanol plant has been revised several times because of the late arrival of the compressor from Bharat Heavy Electricals. A company source previously said the plant’s capacity was 165,000 tonnes/year.

The company has secured gas contracts up to 2016. The gas contracts are formula-based gas pricing and the company is not able to comment on the economic viability of production as feedstock prices fluctuate.

Methanol producers in India include Deepak Fertilisers And Petrochemicals Corp Ltd (DFPCL), and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF).
