Japan's chemical exports increase by 9.7% in January

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s chemical exports excluding pharmaceuticals rose by 9.7% in January 2013 from the previous month, official data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed on Wednesday.

Domestic shipments of chemicals increased by 0.5% month on month, according to the ministry.

The country’s exports of plastics, on the other hand, fell by 0.4% in January 2013 from December 2012, while domestic shipments were up by 2.8%, the data showed.

Japan’s overall industrial exports increased by 4.4% in January from the previous month, but domestic shipments declined by 0.5%, METI said in a statement.
