US Jan EPS exports fell by 25% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for January were down by 25% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US EPS exports fell to 5,845 tonnes in January 2013 from 7,774 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US exports, with all three countries taking less US material in January.

US EPS imports fell by 15% in January to 15,427 tonnes, down from 18,210 tonnes in 2012.

The Bahamas, Canada and Mexico were the top importers into the US.

Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
