HOUSTON (ICIS)--US butadiene (BD) imports for January rose by 34% year on year, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
Imports increased to 68,256 tonnes from 50,840 tonnes in January 2012, according to the ITC.
The biggest factors contributing to the rise were Brazil, which saw imports up 55%, and Saudi Arabia, up 39%.
US BD exports barely moved in January, compared with a year ago. All 5,284 tonnes of US BD went to Mexico, down 1% from 5,354 tonnes a year ago.
US producers of BD include ExxonMobil, INEOS Olefins & Polymer, LyondellBasell, Sabina Petrochemicals, Shell Chemical and TPC Group.
