HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in January rose 34% over the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Friday.
US producers shipped 304,295 tonnes of PVC in January, compared with 227,278 tonnes shipped in January 2012. January’s figure was also 7% higher than the 283,347 tonnes shipped in December.
Turkey, China and Canada were the top destinations for US PVC in January, with Turkey and Canada buying more than they had in the same month of 2012, and China receiving less.
Meanwhile, PVC imports in January were 23,953 tonnes, a 12% jump from the 21,336 tonnes received in the same month of 2012.
Canada was by far the top importer of PVC into the US in January, at 17,446 tonnes, followed by Germany (1,764 tonnes), Mexico (1,642 tonnes) and Japan (740 tonnes).
Major US PVC producers include Axiall, Westlake, Occidental Chemical, Formosa and Shintech.
