HOUSTON (ICIS)--US butyl acetate (butac) exports in January fell by more than 8% year on year on fewer shipments to countries outside the top 10 destinations, according to data released on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
US butac exports totalled 7,002 tonnes in January, compared with 7,662 tonnes in the same month of 2012.
The two largest export destinations - Egypt and the United Arab Emirates - received 1,000 tonnes each, compared to none in the same month last year. Peru took 928 tonnes, up by more than 76% from 526 tonnes in January 2012.
But countries that received far less than those amounts accounted for much of the decline in January, taking only 202 tonnes compared with 3,462 tonnes in the same month of 2012.
Major US butac producers include Dow Chemical, Eastman Chemical and Oxea Group.
