SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Tosoh Corp plans to shut its 1.125m dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit in Nanyo, Yamaguchi prefecture, for a scheduled turnaround on18 May-18 June, a company source said on Tuesday.
The company also has a 184,000 dmt/year caustic soda unit at Yokkaichi in Mie prefecture. This unit was taken off line on 6 March for turnaround and is due to be restarted in April, the source said.
The turnarounds are expected to limit Tosoh’s spot caustic soda cargo availability for the second quarter, according to market participants.
On spot Asian caustic soda trade, however, the impact of the turnarounds may be negligible as the regional market remains in oversupply with demand still weak, they said.
