SINGAPORE (ICIS) – China’s Shaoxing Yuandong Petrochemical plans to shut its 1.4m tonne/year No 4 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Zhejiang province on 13-14 March because of some mechanical issues, a company source said on Wednesday.
“The unit is running at around 75-80% of capacity because of some issues at the compressor,” the source said.
The unit was last restarted on 27-28 February after being shut for 3.5 months because of poor PTA margins, he added.
It is unclear how long the shutdown will last, the source said.
Yuandong will restart its 600,000 tonne/year No 2 PTA unit at the same site to compensate for the production loss.
Yuandong’s 600,000 tonne/year No 1 and 600,0000 tonne/year No 3 PTA units were shut from end-February because of negative margins, the source said.
